Why I Write Books

It all started when I was 35, recovering from a near death experience just before a lifesaving surgery. While on oxygen I prayed, “God, if you will let me live, I will write.” I don’t know where that came from, maybe some tiny part of my soul was beginning to talk.

My first writing became the story of making it through the many hospital stays and finding out how to trust God and let Him heal me. My soul was in despair, so He started with that…journaling and dream work were great aids, and little by little I began to get well—so, well that I came to know: God is real and there was something important I was to do. I had experienced grave challenges and sorrows. Now, I wanted to help others in their darkest hours. The first step was to gain the education and credentialing needed to come alongside people who were sick and others who were dying. It took the tasks of gaining a master’s degree and Board certification as a chaplain. Read More

Dr. Leslie hooked me when she said “I am prescribing Suboxone to patients who are addicted to opioids. They are getting well again, able to work and have a normal life—but I need your help!

I knew immediately that the best way to help Dr. Edison’s patients would be to write another book specific to the needs of people suffering from addiction. They could do a lot of their own healing work through prayerful journaling. I also wanted to share the news that the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has approved medications that block the cravings and help with the pain of withdrawal from addictions to opioids and alcohol. This book extends hope for the greatest peace and comfort life has to offer, which comes in finding we are precious and treasured by God, who has power to help us through anything difficult that we are dealing with. Nothing is too big for God! Read More

The Chaplain is In: Journey to Health and Happiness tells about the journey of being called to chaplaincy. It allows readers to see what chaplaincy is about and why this work is essential in hospitals, hospices, prisons and within the military.

I call my children’s book “heaven sent,” because when I sat down it flowed like no other writing. It is titled, The Little Mountain Goat Who Was Afraid of High Places. This book shows how family members can be helpful—and sometimes not so helpful, such as with bullying that takes place in this story between twins, Sib and Bill.

The problem of bullying is solved in a touching way at the end of the book. Another important aspect of the story is that children can come to realize the Creator has given them everything they will need for doing what is to be done in their lives. Questions at the back of the book prompt communication within family members. If

any child is suffering silently, this may come out through the set of questions offered for parents or grandparents who may be using these with the children. Read More

Finally, a fun book for adults titled, Why Not Make the Trip Worthwhile?

This is a compilation of columns written for people who know a little about the Bible—yet, want to know more. The collection of personally experienced stories are written in an entertaining style with humor, while also extending eternal truths shared from Scripture. I think you will enjoy these writings that became popular and well-read before published in this book. Read More
